Part 3: What’s your origin story?
Yup that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.
The 15th running of the Bobby Crim 10 Miler…eyes closed, praying desperately for sweet relief…the final strides of my introduction to road racing. Outside of an elementary school 100 yard dash, this was the first time I had ever officially toed the line.
Sport watch? Nutrition? Training plan? Not in those days. And I am fairly certain that I mowed the lawn in those “running shoes” the day prior.
Despite these shortcomings, I was still able to muster out a 1:20:43 fueled by water, ignorance and the magical elixir of youth.
As the saying goes….the journey of a thousand miles (races) begins with a single step.
So, what’s your origin story?
Origins and firsts make for fun and amazing stories. And that shared experience is so communal. As in, “I thought I was the only one would didn’t know what they were doing!”
I think we’re loosing a bit of that with our glossy finely curated social media lives.
No matter how you started your “thousand mile (health and fitness) journey” — maybe it was a youth rec league or high school basketball team…or even more recently by taking on that first ever 5k — The Triathlife would love to hear about it.
Oh and remind me to tell you about my first triathlon…though not a reenactment…this isn’t too fare off what actually happened.
Oh and in case you’re new here (hello!)….What is The Triathlife?
We are building a vibrant community of midlife individuals united by a commitment to fun, fitness, and embracing new challenges without judgment. Through supportive camaraderie, we inspire each other to train, to race and to thrive in mind, body and soul.
